Gabrielle “Gabi” Lemos Garcia is a Brazilian professional martial artist, multiple times Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and grappling world champion, and a constituent member of the IBJJF Hall of Fame. Garcia was born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, on November 17, 1985.
Even in her childhood, she was well-informed about sports such as volleyball, team handball, and hockey. Gabi’s passion for martial arts was awakened by her uncle when he began training her in Jiu-Jitsu.
However, before she fully committed to the sport, she pursued a bachelor’s degree in advertising. She ventured into the different types of Jiu-Jitsu and won awards accordingly.
Her mixed martial arts career had varied results where she often faced a more well-equipped opponent or did not meet the threshold of the weight class that she signed up for. One of her most notable wins was against Barbara Nepomuceno in a 226-pound catchweight fight at Rizin 14 on December 31, 2018.
She beat Nepomuceno in the first round via submission. However, her most renowned exhibitions are Garcia’s performance in Jiu-Jitsu and grappling.
She became the first woman to earn four ADCC gold medals in 2019 when she won against Carina Santi by submission in the finals. An unfortunate loss at her end occurred in 2021 when Yara Soares submitted Garcia at the 2021 IBJJF World Championships, the first time in her competitive career at the black belt level.
Though there are no confirmations regarding her loss against Soares, most people have speculated that it was a primary reason for Garcia’s retirement from the IBJJF competition.

Gabi Garcia’s Weight Loss Journey
Garcia’s weight loss journey started in 2012. She is 6’1 and currently weighs 295 lbs; the athlete admitted that despite looking far from the beauty standards expected from women, such as being small and dainty — Gabi never felt the need to conform to such standards and proudly announced that she loves being big.
She emphasized that she is not altering her diet plans and workout routine to become skinny. Still, all her efforts are dedicated to achieving the perfect physique to compete in the professional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu worldwide championships.
Pictures of herself are available online, and Gabi reminded everyone going through their weight loss journey that things won’t happen overnight. One must exert hard work and patience and find it in themselves to have the motivation to continue on their goal despite the countless setbacks and obstacles.
Gabi Garcia’s Diet Plan for Weight Loss
Gabi Garcia attributes her weight loss to having a clean and healthy diet. To achieve her shredded body type, she mostly eats lean protein and avoids eating sugar and dairy excessively.
Drinking plenty of water is essential for Gabi, too. She advises everyone to stay hydrated all the time.
Gabi Garcia’s Exercise Routine for Weight Loss
Garcia stated that her workout routine consists of heavy weight-lifting and cardio to achieve her shredded and bulky look. It is tough to have such muscle definition and low body fat percentage all at once for a woman — seeing as women’s bodies naturally store more fat as a result of preparation for nurturing another human being — yet, Garcia managed to do this simultaneously through consistent training.
